Patrick Svitek is an online and multimedia journalist based in Evanston, Ill., where he is a junior enrolled in the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
He is currently interning for the Metro desk at the Chicago Tribune. He most recently served as the online managing editor of The Daily Northwestern, where he previously edited the City and Web desks and has written several hundred stories since his freshman year.
This summer, Svitek interned at The Huffington Post, covering Capitol Hill and the presidential election for the online newspaper’s DC bureau.
He previously worked as a national security reporter for the Medill News Service, writing about issues related to his beat as well as the Republican presidential primary.
Svitek was placed as a Pulliam intern at the Journal Gazette in Fort Wayne, Ind., during summer 2011 and briefly returned as a general assignment reporter to the paper’s Metro desk in December 2011.
Previously, he interned at the News-Banner in Bluffton, Ind., and N2 Publishing in Fort Wayne, Ind., as well as freelanced for Patch in Morton Grove, Ill., and the Journal Times in Racine, Wis. His work has also appeared in North by Northwestern, an award-winning, student-operated print and online magazine.
